Another gorgeous day in the Bay Area today. Shanthala and I went to the Sunnyvale Recycling Center to get some compost and she was busy in the yard having fun getting her hands dirty.
Kitty was enjoying himself prowling the neighborhood and I managed to snap a good picture of his feline majesty.
I went biking up Stevens Creek Canyon and up Mt. Eden Road. It was hard work biking up hills using the recumbent, but coming down was awesome. I hit 50 kmph. Biked a total of about 22 miles in an hour and forty minutes. Here is a picture of Stevens Creek Resorvoir on the road.
The wind was not too bad. Next time, I’ll bike all the way to Highway 9 and come back from Saratoga. The resorvoir was quite full. There are a couple of beautiful picnic spots on Mt Eden Road by the resorvoir and by the creek itself. We plan to bike up there together and have a picnic there one of these days. My legs are a bit tired, but they should be OK for a decent run by tomorrow noon.
Brad, Noah and Eva were out on their lawn today and we spent a few minutes hanging out with them. Eva who is always fascinated by Shanthala’s pearl necklace, was busy convincing Shanthala that Noah is not interested in necklaces but she is and so deserves to be given the necklace.
We went for a drive along the same route that I biked and ended up eating at a Malaysian place called Layang, Layang. Layang, Layang means kite in Malaysian, according to the waiter who served us. Overall the food was quite good though Banana Leaf in McCarthy Ranch has more spicy curries.
Last night, we had our friends from Magic, the non-profit group visiting us. I played a bunch of new music including the new Mark Knopfler/Emmylou Harris album, All the Road Running. The kids had a lot of fun dancing to Raul Paz, Sade, Chet Atkins, Dire Straits and of course, Saturday Night Fever. Here is a snap of Jenny, Hil and Harper having fun.
Listening to Knopfler is like coming home to me. His voice and guitar have the immediate effect of calming me. The first song off this album, Beachcombing, had the same effect. The album itself however feels like a bit of a letdown. This is the first album of his that I haven’t heard completely yet. Maybe it’ll grow on me, but compared to songs like 5.15am, Back to Tupelo and Boom Like That, most songs on this record seem tepid, not understated. The songwriting also struck me as something of a letdown after Shangri-La.
